Arbor Exchange is a design and build furniture studio based out of Los Angeles, California. It is led by designer/craftsman Josh Jackson, who co-founded the studio in the summer of 2010.
After working as an entrepreneur and primarily sitting in front of a computer, Josh read Shop Class As Soulcraft and was heavily influenced by it's appeal to work with ones hands and the beautiful and complex nature of manual work. He was also influenced by his Grandfather, a master carpenter who built his home and always answered a resounding yes to any of Josh's questions of what was possible to make. Founding Arbor was a return to his roots.
With an emphasis on sustainability and heirloom quality craftsmanship, Arbor Exchange's focus is to design and build furniture that will last for many generations to come.
The furniture we create is carefully crafted here in my small home studio. Our four hundred square foot space allows for minimum excess and forces our work to be efficient and streamlined, which suits us just fine. The lack of space can be difficult, but the short commute makes up for it. It's seven steps from my home to my shop, which means I get more time with my partner and three children.
